Join the Life Saver Initiative: Support First Aid and CPR Training for Our Community Youth

Emergencies can happen anywhere, anytime. When they do, knowing how to respond quickly and effectively can save lives. Yet, many people, especially young individuals in our communities, lack the essential skills to provide first aid or perform CPR. Caring By Default has recognized this urgent need and launched the Life Saver Initiative, a fundraiser aimed at training community youth in First Aid and CPR. This initiative is more than a program; it is a movement to build a safer, more prepared community.

We are accepting donations through GoFundme. Please Click the link within the photo to support!

Why First Aid and CPR Training Matters

Every year, thousands of lives could be saved if bystanders knew how to act in emergencies. Cardiac arrest, choking, severe bleeding, and other medical crises require immediate attention. The first few minutes after an incident are critical. Trained individuals can provide lifesaving care before professional help arrives, especially those working with our youth.

Teaching youth and staff members these skills empowers them to:

  • Act confidently in emergencies

  • Reduce the severity of injuries

  • Increase survival rates in cardiac arrest cases

  • Build a culture of safety and responsibility

For example, studies show that immediate CPR can double or triple survival chances after cardiac arrest. When young people learn these skills, they become valuable assets in their families, schools, and neighborhoods.

The Life Saver Initiative’s Mission

Caring By Default’s Life Saver Initiative focuses on equipping community youth with practical, hands-on training in First Aid and CPR. The goal is to create a network of trained individuals ready to respond in emergencies.

Key aspects of the initiative include:

  • Accessible Training: Offering free courses to remove financial barriers.

  • Qualified Instructors: Partnering with certified trainers to ensure high-quality education.

  • Community Engagement: We are currently seeking to train individuals of the boys & Girls Clubs of Mercia, with hope to support and impact more communities in the future.

  • Ongoing Support: Providing refresher courses and resources to maintain skills.

By supporting this initiative, you help build a community where young people are prepared to save lives and promote safety.

How the Training Works

The training sessions are designed to be interactive and easy to understand, even for beginners. Participants learn through demonstrations, practice, and real-life scenarios.

Training covers:

  • Recognizing emergencies and assessing safety

  • Performing CPR on adults, children, and infants

  • Using automated external defibrillators (AEDs)

  • Managing choking incidents

  • Treating wounds, burns, and fractures

  • Calling emergency services effectively

Each session lasts a few hours and includes hands-on practice with mannequins and first aid kits. This approach ensures that youth not only learn the theory but also gain confidence in applying their skills.

Real Stories of Impact

As a past Club member myself, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America helped me to achieve the goals I set out to accomplish, including making an impact in my own community. If I would have had the same advantage of First/ Aid and CPR opportunities in my youth, maybe I could have done more in my community as well. I seek this implementation for all youth in hopes that they promote safety, know how to actively respond in emergency situations, and even how to assist their own families when needed.

How You Can Support the Life Saver Initiative

Your support can make a tangible difference. Here are ways to contribute:

  • Donate: Funds help cover training materials, instructor fees, and outreach efforts.

  • Volunteer: Assist with organizing events, spreading awareness, or teaching.

  • Spread the Word: Share information about the initiative with friends, family, and local groups.

  • Partner: Organizations can collaborate to expand training opportunities.

Every contribution helps Caring By Default reach more young people and build a safer community.

The Long-Term Benefits for the Community

Investing in youth first aid and CPR training creates lasting benefits:

  • Increased Safety: More trained individuals mean faster response times in emergencies.

  • Health Awareness: Youth learn about injury prevention and healthy habits.

  • Community Confidence: Residents feel more secure knowing help is nearby.

  • Leadership Development: Participants gain skills that build confidence and responsibility.

These benefits extend beyond emergencies, fostering a culture of care and preparedness.

What to Expect After Training

After completing the Life Saver Initiative training, youth receive certification good for two years, and access to resources for continued learning. They become part of a community network that encourages ongoing skill development.

Participants often take on roles such as:

  • Peer educators in schools

  • Volunteers at community events

  • Advocates for safety awareness

This ongoing involvement helps sustain the impact of the initiative.
